The Cartel Conspiracy
Diane Grace Stewart, known on computer networks as ‘The Angel’, is the youngest operative of the Blackeagle/Blackeagle Security and Investigations Corporation. Crippled in a terrorist attack by the World Islamic Jihad three years before and restricted to a wheelchair, she is barely nineteen years old and still fresh from high-school. Although young and inexperienced, she has skills that the elite security company can use. In a world where knowledge is power, her talent lies in her ability to extract information from computer systems: hacking.
Abducted from her New York home and transported to a remote island fortress, Diane finds herself being offered an interesting business proposition by the enigmatic and powerful Cheong Lao. The resources he offers seem limitless: the latest and most powerful super-computers; working alongside a team comprising some of the brightest minds in the computer underground; and a cool two million American dollars already paid into a Swiss bank account, regardless of success or failure. All for just two months of her time. She will be working alongside Kierran Summerville, the darkside hacker, sprung from jail for his social engineering talents; Rico Sanchez, known as ‘El Mariache’, who took on the might of the NSA and won; Karl Stern, legendary virus writer and among the most efficient program-writers in the world; Koichi Misawa, an electronic genius from Tokyo State University; and the seductive Avi Levin, the Israeli security expert who traced her back in Egypt three years before. Cheong’s challenge to them: break into the computer systems of the Columbian drug barons and destroy the powerful cartels of South America.
As Diane’s cell mates desperately try to locate her, the young girl is torn between her desire to return home and the greatest hacking challenge she is ever likely to face. So too, she must come to terms with the awakening of her own womanhood as her relationship with Avi grows more passionate. Yet everyone on the island has secrets, and as the strands begin to unravel and drug wars escalate on the streets of America and Europe, the stakes go up until Diane is literally hacking for her life.
